If you’re a new manager, you may be struggling to find enough time to oversee department staff while still completing daily tasks. You may also feel like you’re walking on a tightrope trying to establish yourself as a leader without coming off as either too forceful or too wishy-washy.
Some tips to ease the transition:
- Have a two-way conversation with your team, outlining what you expect from them and asking what they expect of you
- Work with your own manager to create a 30-, 60-, and 90-day plan for your transition
- Maintain flexibility by being prepared to adapt to differences in your staff members, and be willing to change course when things aren’t going as planned
